Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 30, 2026

Introduction

Vinyolo ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Vinyolo's website, iOS app, or Android app (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

Account information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, and a hashed version of your password. We never store passwords in plain text.

Wine cellar data. The wines you add to your cellar, including bottle details, tasting notes, purchase information, storage locations, and drink-window preferences. This is the core data you create within the Service.

Taste profile. Your responses to the palate profiling quiz, which we use to generate personalized recommendations and food pairings.

Camera images. When you use the label-scanning feature, images of wine labels are sent to our servers for processing. We use these images solely to identify the wine and do not store them after processing is complete.

Usage data. We collect basic analytics such as pages visited, features used, and session duration to improve the Service. We do not use third-party tracking or advertising pixels.

Device and network information. Your IP address (used to provide region-relevant wine search results), browser type, operating system, and device type. We use IP-based geolocation for approximate location only — we do not access your device's GPS.

Payment information. Subscription payments are processed by Stripe (web and Android) and Apple (iOS). We do not store credit card numbers or payment details on our servers. We retain only your subscription status and billing period for account management.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide and improve the Service, including generating AI-powered taste profiles and recommendations, suggesting food pairings, delivering drink-window alerts, and enabling wine label recognition via camera. We also use your email address to send account-related communications such as password resets and subscription confirmations. We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your data for advertising purposes.

AI and Third-Party Services

Vinyolo uses AI services (including OpenAI) to generate taste profiles, wine recommendations, tasting notes, and varietal information. When we send data to these services, we transmit only the minimum information necessary (such as wine names and taste parameters) — never your personal account details. Our AI providers are contractually prohibited from using your data to train their models.

Wines in your cellar may carry a link to that wine's page on Wine-Searcher, generated on our servers from the wine's LWIN reference number. Nothing is sent to Wine-Searcher unless you choose to click the link, at which point your browser visits their site directly, under their own terms and privacy policy.

Browser Extension (Vinyolo Score Collector) — retired

The Score Collector extension has been retired. Version 3.0.0, published in August 2026, registers no content scripts, no site permissions and no background process. An updated copy cannot read any web page even in principle; it reads, collects and transmits nothing. Clicking its toolbar icon shows only a notice explaining the retirement. We recommend removing it: open chrome://extensions and choose Remove.

What earlier versions did. Through version 2.8.4, the extension ran on a fixed, short list of wine sites (wine-searcher.com, klwines.com, wine.com) and on vinyolo.com itself. On those sites it read the visible page content — wine names, critic scores and listed prices — and sent the extracted wine data, with the page URL it came from, to vinyolo.com under your account. It never ran on any other site, never accessed your browsing history, never injected advertising, and never collected personal information from the pages it read.

Authentication. Earlier versions stored an API token in browser extension storage in order to save to your account. Version 3.0.0 has no storage permission and holds no token. Any token issued previously remains valid until you revoke it, and can be reviewed and revoked at any time from your profile page.

Data already collected. Scores and prices gathered before the retirement remain on the wines in your cellar and in Vinyolo's shared reference pool. That pool holds wine information only — wine names, vintages, published critic scores and listed prices — and nothing that identifies you or your cellar. You can edit or clear these values on your own wines at any time, or request full account deletion as described below.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secured servers. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, hashed passwords, and secure session management. While no system is completely immune to security threats, we take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your information.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your account and cellar data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at inbox@vinyolo.com. Upon deletion, your personal data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your login session and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. No third-party cookies are placed by our Service.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You may export your cellar data at any time using the CSV export feature. For any privacy-related requests, contact us at inbox@vinyolo.com.

Children's Privacy

Vinyolo is intended for users of legal drinking age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 21 (or the applicable legal drinking age in their jurisdiction). If we become aware that we have collected data from an underage user, we will promptly delete the account and associated information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
